World Time Buddy Alternatives: What Remote Teams Actually Need in 2026 (and What Is Missing)

World Time Buddy is a great clock. But for freelancers and small teams, finding the time is only the first job of the day. Here's what else you need, and how the two compare.

Heads up: I build GlobalSync AI, so of course I rank it first. I've tried to be clear about where the other tools are better. Pick whatever fits your work, even if it isn't mine.

The numbers in this guide update themselves. Meeting times are for Thu, Oct 29, with daylight saving applied.

Why I wrote this

World Time Buddy is good. Its shareable meeting link is a smart idea, and if all you need is “what time is it in X for this one call?”, it'll serve you well.

But most freelancers and small remote teams I talk to run into the same three problems within a month or so.

It stops at the clock. You found your 30-minute window. Then the client needs an invoice, and you need their currency, the likely fees and a decision on USD or EUR. World Time Buddy doesn't go there.

The gaps get filled with tabs. If you're a solo freelancer in Lahore billing one US client, paying for team scheduling software feels silly. So you patch it together with three other sites, right when you're busiest.

It's a lookup, not a workflow. Once you've confirmed the time, everything after it (invoicing, currency, payment timing) is on you, spread across separate tabs.

If that sounds like your Tuesday, read on. Below is what I'd look for instead, and where GlobalSync AI covers those gaps.

What I looked for

I compared six time zone and scheduling tools using the questions a solo freelancer or a three-person remote team runs into every week:

What I checkedWhy it matters
Free multi-city overlap, no signupYou shouldn't have to pay to find out if your client is awake.
Business hours and weekends“It's 10 PM in Mumbai” doesn't tell you whether it's OK to call.
Invite text for every city in one clickNo re-typing, and no “is that UTC or local?” replies.
A desktop or always-on optionIf you work across three zones daily, a tab every morning gets tiring.
Currency next to schedulingAfter “call confirmed” usually comes “now I invoice them in their currency”.
Multi-currency invoicesNot just “how much is $100 in INR?” but a PDF with the USD amount, the INR reference and your terms.
No account for basic useA time check shouldn't need your email address.

Currency converterNoYes, 160+ currencies with live rates and a reminder to check your payment provider
Multi-currency invoice PDFsNoYes, 3 free per month
Freelance rate calculatorNoYes, plus 12 currency-corridor rate guides
Shareable linkYes, for one meeting time (its best feature)Shareable team workspace links. A link for one specific meeting time is on our roadmap.
Native mobile appYesNot yet. Web on mobile for now, iOS and Android apps are coming.

In short: if you only need a quick time check for a call, keep using World Time Buddy. Its shareable link is excellent. But if your week is “book the call, check their hours, invoice in USD (not PKR, because the fees eat my margin) and check my rate in EUR”, you need more than a clock. Doing all four in one place beats juggling three tabs.

Three people GlobalSync is built for

The 7 AM New York / 4:30 PM Mumbai freelancer

Your client sync is every morning, New York time. After the call, you need to send the invoice, pick USD or INR and check whether the rate has moved since you quoted. You do that in the same place instead of opening a finance tool. The Invoice Builder shows both currencies with a reference conversion line, so the client sees what they're paying and what it comes to locally.

The three-person EU agency with a US client and an APAC client

You want to know the overlap before you block anyone's calendar. The Meeting Planner tells you right away whether a working window exists, how tight it is and who'd have to start early or stay late. Then it copies the time for all three regions. Nobody has to ask what time that is in Singapore.

The solo developer in Dubai with US and UK clients

You charge in USD and GBP but track your income in AED or USD. The Invoice Builder handles multi-currency line items and adds a reference conversion. The Freelance Rate Calculator turns $85/hr into your client's currency and a yearly total before you change a quote.

Where World Time Buddy is still better

  • The shareable meeting link. Still the best there is. Our team workspace links cover a whole team's times, but we don't have a link for one specific meeting time yet.
  • Mobile apps. They have native apps today. Ours are still on the way.
  • Familiarity. It's been the default for about fifteen years, so lots of people already know how to read its grid.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to World Time Buddy?

Yes, for seeing many cities at once and finding the overlap. GlobalSync AI's Meeting Planner is free, needs no signup and covers 85+ cities. It also shows business hours and weekends, and copies the meeting time for every city in one click. If you need currency conversion or invoices in the same flow, that's where it goes further than World Time Buddy.

What is better than World Time Buddy for international freelancers?

For a plain time check, World Time Buddy is still a solid choice. But if your work also involves invoicing in other currencies, checking a client's business hours (not just their clock) or seeing your rate in another currency, a tool that puts scheduling, currency and invoicing together saves a lot of tab-switching. GlobalSync AI is built for that, and you don't have to pay for team software to use it.

Does World Time Buddy have an invoice builder?

No. World Time Buddy is about time zones and meeting times. You'd need a separate invoicing tool (FreshBooks or Wave, for example) plus a currency converter. If you want scheduling, hours, conversion and invoicing in one place with no account, GlobalSync AI's free Invoice Builder covers it.
