How to Invoice a US Client From Pakistan (and Actually Get Paid in Full)

PayPal isn't an option from Pakistan, so the payment route has to be on your invoice from day one. Here's what works, what it costs, and how to write the invoice.

The numbers in this guide update themselves. Exchange rates: ExchangeRate-API (build snapshot) as of 22 Oct 2026 00:02 UTC. Meeting times are for Thu, Oct 29, with daylight saving applied.

Start with the payment route, not the template

Most invoice advice assumes your client can "just PayPal you". From Pakistan they can't: PayPal doesn't let Pakistani residents open an account or withdraw to a local bank. So before you send anything, decide how the money will reach you, and put those details on the invoice. The Invoice Builder has a field for exactly that.

Routes that work from Pakistan, and what they cost

RouteWhat the US client doesTypical cost (approximate)Watch out for
PayoneerPays your Payoneer payment request by US bank debit (ACH) or cardAbout 1% by ACH or about 3% by card, then up to about 2% above mid-market when you withdraw to a PKR bank accountAsk clients to pay by ACH, not card. Payoneer also has an annual account fee that's waived above a yearly receiving threshold.
Direct bank transfer (SWIFT)Wires USD to your Pakistani bank accountSender fee of roughly $25 to $50, an intermediary fee of $10 to $30, then your bank's conversion rateAsk your bank for the rate it applies and for a Proceeds Realization Certificate (PRC) as proof of the remittance.
Client pays through WiseSends from their Wise account to your PKR bank accountRoughly 0.5% to 1%, shown to the client before sendingYou don't need your own Wise account for this. Opening one as a Pakistan resident may not be possible, so check Wise's current country list.
PayPalNot possiblePayPal doesn't serve Pakistan-based accounts.
Fees change often and differ by account. Check each provider's current pricing before you quote. Approximate as of October 2026.

On a $2,500 invoice, the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive route can easily be $75 or more. At today's rate that's about PKR 20,800, so pick the route before you set your price, and build its cost into the quote. The Freelance Rate Calculator helps with that.

Bill in USD, show the rupees as a reference

US clients pay in USD, and their accounts team approves USD. Keep the invoice in USD and add one clearly labelled line so you both know what it's worth locally:

Total due: USD 2,500.00
Reference only: approximately PKR 692,500 at 277.00/USD on 22 Oct 2026.
Payment due in USD as stated above.

The Invoice Builder adds this line for you using the live rate, and the USD to PKR page shows the rate on its own if you just want to check.

The fields that stop payment delays

FieldWhat to write
Currency, spelled out"USD 2,500.00", never just "$2,500"
Payment detailsYour Payoneer payment link, or your bank's name, SWIFT/BIC, IBAN and the account title exactly as the bank has it
Your detailsFull legal name, address in Pakistan, email. Add your NTN if you have one.
Client detailsCompany name and billing address in the US, plus the person who approves invoices
Terms"Net 14. Payment due by [date]." Count from the date you send it.

Taxes: use the banking channel

Pakistan has a reduced final tax rate on IT and IT-enabled export income received through banking channels. Several tax guides put it at 0.25% for exporters registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and 1% otherwise. Rates and conditions change with each budget, so confirm the current figures with the FBR or a tax adviser. What is consistent: money that arrives through a bank or an approved channel, with a PRC to prove it, is what qualifies. Cash, crypto or a friend's foreign account won't.

Send it at a sensible hour

A New York client's workday starts in your evening. Send the invoice so it's at the top of their inbox when they start: 9:00 AM in New York is 6:00 PM in Karachi this week. The Time Zone Converter shows it for any city, and the US to Pakistan meeting guide helps if you need a call first.

Frequently asked questions

How can I receive payment from a US client in Pakistan?

The common routes are Payoneer (the client pays your payment request by bank debit or card), a direct SWIFT bank transfer in USD to your Pakistani bank account, or the client sending money through Wise to your PKR bank account. PayPal doesn't work for Pakistan-based accounts. Put your chosen route on the invoice so the client doesn't have to ask.

Should I invoice a US client in USD or PKR?

Invoice in USD. It's what the client pays and approves. Add a reference line with the PKR equivalent (for example "approximately PKR 692,500 at 277.00/USD on 22 Oct 2026") so both sides know the local value. GlobalSync AI's free Invoice Builder adds that line automatically.

What is the cheapest way to get paid from the USA in Pakistan?

It depends on how the client pays. A client paying through Wise to your PKR bank account usually costs the least, followed by Payoneer with the client paying by ACH. Card payments and SWIFT transfers cost more because of card fees, wire fees and the bank's conversion rate. Check each provider's current fees before you quote.
